Veronika Vařeková (born 1 June 1977) is a Czech supermodel. Her name in the English-language press is often given as Veronica Varekova.

Originally from Olomouc, at age 19 she moved to New York City, United States. Initially, she wanted to attend the Parsons School of Design, though she chose modeling instead and was signed by Next Model Management. She moved to Europe after it became clear that she would be more successful there. She is fluent in three languages and has degrees in Psychology and Education. She married Philadelphia Flyers center Petr Nedved in July 2004.

Modeling work

Vařeková has appeared in the swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated a total of six times: 1999-2002, 2004, and 2005. She appeared on the cover in 2004. In addition to SI, she is regularly featured in Victoria's Secret and became the face of NIVEA. Other contracts include Guess?, Chanel and Pantene. She was a cover girl for Marie Claire, Harpers & Queen and Cosmopolitan.

In the news

In May, 2006 Vařeková claimed that Maxim magazine unlawfully used a photograph of her scantily clad -- in stockings, high heels and naked from the waist up -- on the cover of its June issue. The photo was taken for a British GQ magazine feature on Victoria's Secret last year. Afterward, the photo agency Corbis sold the photos to Maxim. Vařeková says she was never told of the sale, nor was she asked for her permission to do so.

"They put me on the cover without my permission," the model told reporters last week. "They have no right to do it."

Vařeková says the photos were fitting for a feature on Victoria's Secret, but "for Maxim, it looks -- to my eyes -- super, super vulgar."

Regardless, Maxim placed Varekova at #32 on its 2006 Hot 100

Karolína Kurková (born February 28, 1984) is a Czech supermodel.

Kurková was born in Děčín, Czech Republic, and had an early insight into what celebrity life would be like, as her father Josef Kurka, was a star basketball player. As a child, her height made her relatively awkward and gangly, but that would all change with age. A close friend recognized her beauty and sent photos of Kurková to an agency in Prague. Kurková immediately landed a runway appearance, as well as a commercial and print ad. Still, being a model in the Czech Republic did not expose her to what fashion was really about, so Kurková took a chance and traveled to Milan to gain some more experience.

There, Miuccia Prada (the designer behind the famous brand name, Prada) signed her to a contract that proved to be the beginning of her stellar career. In September of 1999, Kurková's hard work as a 15-year-old model culminated in a meeting with some Vogue editors in New York City. She impressed them immediately and the execs began to slowly groom her for success. A move to NYC and a hectic work schedule ensued. It all paid off when Kurková finally made her presence known in the February 2001 issue of Vogue. One of the youngest models ever to grace its cover, the magazine helped propel her to stardom. She was now recognized at haute couture fashion shows and Victoria's Secret swept her up and chose her to be a part of that year's television special, in November. Even fashion houses like Yves Saint-Laurent took note of the her and signed Kurková to deals. Print campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino, and others helped expose Kurková even more, while she headlined the second Victoria's Secret show the following year. The constant flow of work (she is said to have worked 23 weeks straight) was recognized by Vogue as they honored her with the "Model of the Year" title at the 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards.

The usual contracts with top designers such as Ralph Lauren, Óscar de la Renta, Chanel and Balenciaga continued, and a recent tally put Kurková's magazine cover appearances at 80 and counting. She is revered as much in the fashion world for her personality, which is described as intense and energetic, as for her looks. This attractive attitude leaves little doubt that Kurková will emerge as a legendary supermodel; even legendary Vogue editor, Anna Wintour, called her the "next supermodel." When asked to explain Kurková's allure, David Bonnouvrier, the owner of Kurková's agency, DNA, says simply, "she's it." In this case, "it" means Kurková's "incredible dynamics." She combines "the ultimate body with incredibly fresh features and an extremely punchy attitude and energy – which comes through in all of her pictures," Bonnouvrier says. Trudi Tapscott, Vogue's bookings editor, was impressed with Kurková from the moment the magazine began working with her in the Summer of 2000. "Very feminine," are the words Tapscott uses to describe Kurková's appeal, adding that it is Kurková's "extra-special energy and enthusiasm" that sets her apart from the pack.

Kurková has been featured in fashion spreads in most major fashion magazines including U.K., U.S., and French Vogue (as well as other international versions of Vogue), Vanity Fair, The Face, and W. Most recently, Kurková has grabbed the cover of Korea's W, as well as the Greek Vogue. She has worked with well-known photographers in the fashion industry today, such as Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, and Mario Testino, who said of Kurková, "The proportions of her body and her face, as well as her energy level, make her a model who could fit almost into any moment." Designer Marc Jacobs said of Kurková, "She has an angelic look with a dark side, she's sweet and fun but looks like she could be an evil bewitching child."

Living in New York's TriBeCa district, Kurková is able to separate herself from modeling enough to enjoy courtside basketball games at Madison Square Garden.

In March of 2006, Kurková received an award from the non-profit organization, Women Together, for her humanitarian work. Kurková was honored for working for the welfare of children through organizations such as "The Beautiful Life Fund" and "Free Arts." In May she was scheduled to present an award to New York columnist Simon Doonan. However, she pulled out days beforehand. Wrote Doonan, "The lovely Karolina Kurkova was scheduled to present the Fashion Maverick Award to me, and had cancelled days before the ceremony. (Like any well-brought-up Czech gal, she sent a note and an orchid.)"

Architect Elmslie Osler is currently working on a private residence for Kurková. The residence will be illuminated by translucent glass panels and columns, warm Brazilian teak folding planes and a spectacular 19-foot-long cowhide storage element to create a dramatic yet minimal home. Kurková is also set to make her film debut alongside Frankie Muniz, Harvey Keitel and Amber Valletta in Howard Himelstein's coming-of-age dramedy, My Sexiest Year.

Charlize Theron (born August 7, 1975) is an Academy Award-winning Afrikaner actress and former fashion model, who was born in South Africa.
Contents

Early life

Theron was born in Benoni, South Africa. Her father, Charles Theron, was a construction company owner of French Huguenot descent; her mother, Gerda, is of German descent and took over her husband's business after his death. Theron's first language is Afrikaans. She is also fluent in English and speaks some Xhosa, as well as having varying levels of fluency in around thirty other African languages and dialects, learned from neighbors and employees on her parents' farm. In the United States, both in her films and while being interviewed, etc., Theron speaks with a typical American accent and style of speech, leading most Americans to assume she is American.

"Theron" is a French surname pronounced in Afrikaans as "Tronn," although she has said that she prefers the pronunciation "Thrown." The pronunciation commonly used in the United States involves two syllables, with stress on the first.

Theron grew up as the only child on her parents' farm near Johannesburg (Benoni) and was sent to a boarding school at the age of thirteen. At fifteen, Theron witnessed the death of her father, an abusive alcoholic; her mother shot him in self-defense when he attacked her. No charges were pressed.

At the age of sixteen, Theron traveled to Milan, Italy, on a one-year modeling contract, after winning a local competition. Her contract ended while she was in New York City, and she decided to remain there, attending the Joffrey Ballet School, where she trained as a ballet dancer. A knee injury ended this career path at the age of 18.

Unable to dance, she bought a ticket to Los Angeles. After eight months in the city, she was cast in her first film part, a non-speaking role in the direct-to-video film Children of the Corn III. She followed this with larger roles in widely released Hollywood films, and her career skyrocketed in the late 1990s, with box office successes like The Devil's Advocate, The Cider House Rules, and Mighty Joe Young.

The May 1999 issue of Playboy published nude photos of Theron, taken during the early years of her modeling career. Claiming they had been "for private use", Theron ended up suing photographer Guido Argentini.

After appearing in a few notable films, Theron starred as serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the film Monster (2003). Film critic Roger Ebert called it "one of the greatest performances in the history of the cinema", for which Theron won the Best Actress Oscar at the 76th Academy Awards in February 2004, as well as the SAG Award and the Golden Globe Award. She is the first South African to win an Oscar for Best Actress.

Having signed a deal with John Galliano in 2004, Theron replaced Estonian model Tiiu Kuik in the J'ADORE advertisements by Christian Dior; she is the current spokeswoman for Dior perfume. On September 30, 2005, she received her own bronze star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In the same year, she starred in the financially unsuccessful science fiction thriller Æon Flux and was given positive reviews, as well as a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination, for her lead performance in the drama North Country. Ms. honored her for this performance as well with a feature article in its Fall 2005 issue. She had also been nominated for an Oscar as a lead actress for the role, although she did not win; this was her second nomination.

In 2005, Theron also portrayed Rita, Michael Bluth's (Jason Bateman) love interest on the third season of FOX's critically acclaimed sitcom Arrested Development.

Personal life

Theron dated the lead singer of Third Eye Blind, Stephan Jenkins, from January 1998 to July 2001. Jenkins broke up with her after failing to take her requests of marriage seriously. Theron now resides in Los Angeles with her long-time boyfriend, Stuart Townsend, with whom she starred in the 2004 film Head in the Clouds, as well as in the 2002 film Trapped; she has said that they will not marry until same-sex couples are able to have their marriages recognized. In October 2005, her mother, Gerda, was married in California. The media thought that Charlize was the one getting married (to Townsend) and the paparazzi got as close as it could for the photos.

While filming Æon Flux in Berlin, Germany, Theron had surgery on a herniated disc in her neck, the result of an injury incurred on the set during a stunt.

In May 2006, Maxim magazine named Theron #25 in its annual Hot 100 issue.

Theron is also involved in women's rights organizations. She has tried to apply for a German passport because of her mother's German ancestry, but was turned down because she did not have any family members currently residing there.

In 2006, Theron won GLAAD's Vanguard Award at the GLAAD Media Awards for increasing "visibility and understanding in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community."

Theron is a supporter of animal rights and active member of PETA. She recently appeared in a PETA ad for their anti-fur campaign

Eva Longoria - Gabrielle on Desperate Housewives
Born - March 15, 1975, Corpus Christi, Texas, United States of America
Height - 5'1"
Weight - 95 lbs
Occupation - Actress
Career milestones - Desperate Housewives

Eva Jacqueline Longoria (born March 15, 1975 in Corpus Christi, Texas) is a Golden Globe Award-nominated Mexican-American film and television actress. She is best known for her role as Gabrielle Solis in the ABC television series Desperate Housewives. She has also become an internationally recognised model, appearing in several high profile advertising campaigns and numerous men's magazines.

Early life

Longoria was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Mexican-American Catholic parents Enrique Longoria Jr. and Ella Eva Mireles. The youngest of four daughters, she has three older sisters Elizabeth, Emily and Esmeralda. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. During this time she won the title of "Miss Corpus Christi, USA" in 1998. After completing college, she entered a talent contest which would lead her to Los Angeles, shortly after she was spotted and signed by a theatrical agent.

Career

Longoria landed her first television role in 2000, guest starring in an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. It was a humble beginning, but there would soon be more work. Another guest appearance in General Hospital the same year preceded her big break in popular American soap opera The Young and the Restless, in which she played psychotic Isabella Braña Williams from 2001 to 2003 and was listed in People en Español's "Most Beautiful People" for 2003. After leaving The Young and the Restless, she was seen on the now-cancelled Dragnet. Although it lasted only two seasons, the show gave Longoria another leading star credit to her name. Following Dragnet, she starred in two ill-fated productions - Señorita Justice - a poorly received direct-to-video film and a television film titled The Dead Will Tell.

Longoria was about to land a role that would elevate her to the A-List. In 2004, she starred as adulteress Gabrielle Solis in the worldwide break-out ABC hit Desperate Housewives. As the show became an overnight sensation, Longoria's career was well and truly launched. She caused a stir at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards in Miami when she appeared in a one-piece bathing suit to introduce Mariah Carey's performance, and joked that she "wasn’t going to let a little hurricane keep me from wearing a bathing suit." She also became the face of L'Oreal internationally and signed a rumoured 6-figure deal to appear in the company's print and television ads. Despite her success, she was snubbed at the 2005 Emmy Awards when she was the only female member of the Desperate Housewives main cast not be nominated. She satirized Housewives internal drama when she appeared on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show, being interviewed from her supposedly-relegated-to worst seats in the house.

Shortly after her debut on Desperate Housewives, Longoria starred in a poorly received direct-to-video film titled Carlita's Secret, for which she was also co-producer. In 2005, she was finally rewarded for her performance as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives when she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy along with her co-stars. She also stars opposite Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland in the 2006 thriller The Sentinel, which is her first major role in a theatrical movie (both Douglas and Sutherland noted that much to their surprise, Eva whipped both of them in gun practice). Longoria continues to be included in lists of Hollywood's Most Beautiful, and was listed as #1 in Maxim's Hottest Female Stars of 2005 and 2006, becoming the first woman to top the list in two consecutive years.

On her interview with Ryan Seacrest on The Interview with Ryan Seacrest on E! she has stated: "I don't want to be on 7th Heaven -- on for 20 years and no one's really watching and it's hanging on by a thread." She has stated multiple times that she will not renew her Desperate Housewives contract once it is up. She has set her sights on the film industry.

In May 2006 Maxim magazine named Longoria number 1 on the Hot 100 list for 2006.

In 2006, Longoria appeared on Jessica Simpson's music video "A Public Affair" along with Christina Milian, Christina Applegate, Ryan Seacrest, Maria Menounos and Andy Dick.

Personal life

Longoria was married to Tyler Christopher, General Hospital star, from 2002 to 2004, and as such, was also credited as Eva Longoria Christopher. Longoria has been romantically linked to SAG president Edward W V Stephens, successful writer Milan Gracanin, ex-*NSYNC member JC Chasez, actor Mousir Syed and Life As We Know It star, Sean Faris (although both Faris and Longoria deny any romantic link). Although some have reported her height as 5'2", she is in fact 5'1".

Longoria spoke candidly about her affection for vibrators in an interview that Rolling Stone magazine published December 15, 2004. As a result, readers started sending sex toys to Longoria (she gave them to friends as gifts). Her employer ABC asked Longoria to stop mentioning the word vibrator in interviews.

Presently, she is dating NBA basketball star Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs. Reports said Longoria claimed she’s had to teach Tony Parker lots of tricks in the bedroom because he was so inexperienced when he met her. "I’m the experienced one. I’m the teacher, especially about love. He’s always telling me he’s never met anyone who loves the way I do, wholly, freely and unconditionally". Longoria later went on to refute this comment to Extra, insisting she was horribly misquoted and she is the more naive lover of the two. She told TV show Extra, "When the lights are out, he's the teacher and I'm the student".

On December 24, 2005, a car driven by Parker was cited for impeding traffic. Longoria, who was a passenger, allegedly began verbally abusing the officer by yelling: "He's just a Mexican bike cop. He only wants your autograph." She later denied the allegation, saying through her publicist: "I never made any sort of racial slurs, let alone made any comments about the officer being Mexican, as a Mexican myself."

She is a Catholic and jokingly mentioned about how uneasy it made her feel in an episode of Desperate Housewives when her character attacked a nun. She also has mentioned in the past that her grandmother at first dissapproved of the fact that her character was having an adulterous affair with a 16 year old.

Born - January 24, 1986 Hammersmith, England, United Kingdom
Occupation - Actress, spokesmodel
Career milestones - Lost and Delirious (2001),The O.C. (2003-2006)

Mischa Anne Barton (born January 24, 1986) is a London-born British/Irish actress, now a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Background

Barton was born in Hammersmith, London, England, to a Manchester-born English father and an Irish mother, but moved to New York City when she was five years old. She has two sisters, Hania and Zoe. Barton graduated from the Professional Children's School in Manhattan in 2004, and attended a summer school in Shakespearean acting at RADA in 2006.

Career

Barton began her acting career at the age of nine in New York Theatre with a lead role in Slavs!, written by Tony Kushner. She took part in many plays, taking a lead role in James Lapine's Twelve Dreams. She made her film debut in Lawn Dogs, which won awards at film festivals around the world. Since then she has appeared in several films, including The Sixth Sense, Notting Hill, and Lost and Delirious, in which she starred.

Mischa Barton first appeared on television in 1996, as a younger Lily Montgomery in All My Children. Two years later she starred in the film Pups with Cameron Van Hoy. She also had a one-time appearance in the Fox show Fastlane, and appeared in the video for "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt. She has also appeared in Enrique Iglesias's video, Addicted. She played in eight episodes on the television show Once and Again as Katie Singer, Jessie Sammler's (Evan Rachel Wood)'s school friend.

Barton is best known for her role as Marissa Cooper in the TV series The O.C.. That role ended in a fatal car "accident" during the third season's finale, which aired on May 18, 2006. Though rumors had been swirling for weeks about the show's much hyped season finale death, Barton and NBC entertainment news program Access Hollywood infuriated fans of the show in revealing the character's death before the finale even aired.

In August 2006, news emerged that she may replace Teresa Palmer as Millie in Doug Liman's upcoming sci-fi thriller Jumper.

Endorsements

Barton has modeled for Calvin Klein. She has appeared in advertisements for Aéropostale, bebe, Accessorize, Dooney and Bourke, JC (Jeans and Clothes), Neutrogena, Jaspal and Keds. The executives at Neutrogena decided to make her the cover girl for their new worldwide ad campaign; in this regard Barton followed in the footsteps of fellow teen stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mandy Moore, and Kristin Kreuk.

Sophie Marceau (born November 17, 1966) is a French actress.

Career

Born Sophie Danièle Sylvie Maupu in Paris, France.

Her career started at age 14 when Claude Pinoteau cast her in the starring role of the teenager movie La Boum (1980). Overnight, the film elevated her to teenage idol status in France and many other European countries and Japan.

Two years later, the less funny but more sentimental sequel La Boum 2 (1982) increased her popularity further. In 1983, she was honoured with a Cesar Award (France's equivalent of an Oscar) for "Most Promising Actress".

At age 18, she played a more demanding role in Fort Saganne (1984), in which her co-stars were Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve. The same year she played with Jean-Paul Belmondo in Joyeuses Pâques (1984), based on the play by Jean Poiret.

She showed her dramatic skills in films directed by her long-time companion, director Andrzej Zulawski: "L'Amour braque" (1985), "Mes nuits sont plus belles que vos jours" (1989), "La Note bleue" (1991), and "Fidélité" (2000).

Marceau rose to international stardom playing the part of Princess Isabelle in Mel Gibson's historical epic film Braveheart (1995).

Following this success, she appeared in A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999), and as Bond girl/villain Elektra King in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999).

Marceau wrote a semi-autobiographical novel Telling Lies (2001), and tried directing as well. Making her directorial debut in a feature film, Marceau was awarded Best Director by the jury of the 2002 Montreal World Film Festival for her film Parlez-moi d'amour starring Judith Godrèche. Prior to this, in 1995, she had made a nine-minute short film, L'Aube à l'envers, which also starred her friend Godrèche.
